On August 21st this year, Llinos Elin Owen, originally from Pwllheli, played contra bassoon in a special concert at The Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms 2024 series. She was part of the Aurora Orchestra, which specialise in performing large works from memory. They performed Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the BBC Singers and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. The concert organizers wanted to highlight the fact that Beethoven was deaf, and the performance includes sign language interpretation. According to Llinos, 6000 tickets for the concert were sold within one minute of their becoming available. The concert will be broadcast on BBC 4 on Friday 30th August at 8pm, and will also be availabe on BBC iPlayer.
Llinos currently lives in Cardiff, where she is sub-principal bassoonist for the orchestra of Welsh National Opera.
